North Clackamas Crusaders Boys Rugby

Practice– We practice 2 times a week from 4-6 PM with an optional touch game on Fridays. Practice will begin Thursday, Feb. 6 with our first team practice on the Clackhi turf. We will practice at Clackamas for the first 3 weeks and then we move to another location because track practices begin.

Necessary equipment: cleats (football cleats will work, screw-in cleats are preferred as we normally play on grass), shorts (rugby shorts are strongly recommended), and a t-shirt or jersey, a fitted mouthguard for the days when we do tackling in practice, and warmer clothes for those cold days. When dues are paid, each player will receive a practice ball. Rugby shorts are available for $19 and team socks for $5 and both are necessary for new players.

Teams:   We will field a Varsity team (grades 11-12) and a JV team (grades 9-10)

Games League matches are played on Saturdays from Mar. 16 – May 11.  (No game on the second Sat. of Spring Break). We will also play a preseason match,  perhaps Mar. 4 and the league preseason tournament is March 11.  Most home games will be played at Lents Park or at Delta Park. Once or twice a season, we will travel out of town to play Pendleton, or Bend, or Salem or one of the other non-Portland area teams.

Cost – $227 for new players including socks and shorts, Any player who pays dues receives both a practice ball and a mouthguard. Partial payment from the league is available to players who can demonstrate and document financial hardship (documentation of free/reduced lunch is enough). Oregon Youth Rugby is very flexible about payment, and rugby dues can be paid in multiple installments.

What if I am not sure?  We will practice for several weeks prior to any games, and we will have weekly touch games prior to the beginning of the season (Fridays at CHS on the football turf until track begins). Interested players are welcome to attend these sessions before making a commitment to the team

Registration and Documentation – The registration process is online at If you think you are potentially interested in playing rugby, please contact coach Grant Raddon, and he will follow up with you and answer questions.
