Game Recap

This Saturday the North Clackamas Crusaders lost 17-15 to Polk County (Salem) on a last-second penalty kick in the playoff for 5th and 6th place statewide. The Crusaders held a slim 15-14 lead going into the game’s final moments, but Polk County carried the ball into our half of the field in the last minute or so, and they were awarded a penalty right at the very end of the game and their placekicker slotted the kick from 25 meters out to give them a 17-15 win right at the end of the game.

The Crusaders once again brought maximum effort in this game, building on their last-minute semifinal win last week over Clark County, a win over a team that had beaten us earlier in the regular season 55-17. This time, we were rematched with Polk County, a team that had thrashed us in Salem three weeks ago by a lopsided 76-10 scoreline. This game was a close one throughout as we went into halftime down 7-5, and then we scored twice in the second half while Polk only scored once. They converted both of their tries, however, while we converted neither of ours, and the final penalty kick put them into the win column.
